This workshop is an introduction to improvisation through the lens of Waacking. We will obviously touch on the basics of Waacking and other body techniques in order to give us the opportunity to explore the physical and creative plurality that inhabits us. Through different exercises, we will take the time to become aware of, and commit to, our choices in order to develop a greater presence.

Biography
Active in the Montreal dance scene since 2013, Marie-Reine “M Queen” Kabasha has had the opportunity to work with creators with a refined and versatile artistic language.She joined the company EBNFLŌH in 2014 and participated in the creation of “Complexe R”. In 2016, she also joined the company Tentacle Tribe. Internationally, she’s collaborated with the Parisian waacking collective Ma Dame Paris in 2019. Recently, she has worked with Brigitte Poupart, Grand Poney, Sébastien Provencher, Helen Simard and Caroline Laurin-Beaucage. Inspired by all forms of expression and naturopathy, she has a growing interest in research and creation.Photo: Do Phan Hoi.

About Waacking
Waacking is a form of street dance created in the LGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles during the 1970s disco era. The style is typically done to 70s music and is mainly distinguishable by its rotational arm movements, posing and emphasis on expressiveness.
