OUR DEVELOPMENT COMPONENTS

The FURIES team is constantly exploring ways to enhance the festival’s quality without increasing the number of performances or the duration of the event. Instead, we are focusing on growth through various initiatives that strengthen our connections with the different groups our activities are aimed at—including audiences, artists, and other stakeholders in the cultural sector—in order to significantly amplify the impact of our work on our communities.

Since 2024, the International Component of FURIES has facilitated the presentation of international works and supported a cohort of international presenters to promote the reach of Quebec works. This component is not only an opportunity to discover avant-garde voices, but also a space for global exchange between audiences, artists, and presenters from diverse backgrounds. While dance artists are accustomed to presenting their work in urban centers, FURIES offers them a rare opportunity to discover rural Quebec and its audiences, who are eager for artistic boldness.

This component is supported by Goethe-Institut. Il is sponsored by Radio-Gaspésie

The Emerging Artists Program offers two early-career artists a full immersion in the festival’s vibrant atmosphere, thanks to a $1,000 grant, access to FURIES’ Parcours PRO, and personalized support from the festival team. A true creative hub and exceptional showcase for contemporary dance from here and abroad, FURIES is a highly sought-after event for emerging artists! Discover the two artists selected this year.

This Component is supported by École de danse contemporaine de Montréal and École de danse de Québec, in collaboration with Maison pour la danse and l’Artère.

With a program tailored specifically for young people, the Discovery Component is based on fruitful collaborations between FURIES and dance schools and community organizations in the Gaspé Peninsula and Eastern Quebec, with the aim of providing a supportive environment for young people to experience dance in its various forms.

The Professional Component of FURIES aims to foster collaboration among the various forces at work in the arts community by building bridges between creation, presentation, and professional development. This program offers a 4-day immersive experience consisting of a day of exchanges and reflections dedicated to arts professionals (workshops, meetings, discussions), networking activities, and special access to all the shows in the program. Artists, presenters, and cultural workers share their expertise and explore new collaborations. It is a unique opportunity to connect and inspire the future of dance in the Gaspé Peninsula and beyond.

Through various writing-related initiatives, FURIES aims to support a new generation of dance critics, columnists, and journalists. This program also helps audiences deepen their understanding of the dance performances presented at the festival and fosters dynamic conversations about the works. In 2026, FURIES is launching a new partnership with moveo and REFRAIN to promote the involvement of emerging talents who will put their pens to work to tell the festival’s story in a fresh way!

Partenaires | Festival Chants de Vielles

Since its first edition, FURIES has worked to make contemporary dance accessible to all the communities that make up the Haute-Gaspésie region, staying true to its commitment to strengthening its roots in the area. The Community Component offers concrete actions that promote accessibility, inclusion, and connection by implementing development strategies targeting various local populations: seniors, caregivers, newcomers, people of immigrant background, local groups supporting gender diversity, temporary workers, local businesses, and more. These initiatives include group rates or free tickets, workshops, or exclusive meet-and-greets with artists featured in the program, as well as customized projects designed to showcase our local collaborations and strengthen the ties between artistic creation and community life.
