In MOVEMENTS OF SOUL, YAV brings together the dynamic worlds of dance, music and fashion to create a unique and immersive experience.
YAV has deliberately chosen not to describe his piece in order to challenge our preconceptions and conditioning, as we often find ourselves entangled in the confusion of distinguishing the message from the messenger. YAV encourages spectators⸱trice⸱s to explore and interpret the performance in their own way in order to spark conversations about how we perceive and understand art.
MOVEMENTS OF SOUL is an opportunity for a multi-layered and individual experience. It reminds us that art doesn’t always need words to convey meaning – sometimes the deepest conversations are born of the unspoken, the unscripted and the ambiguous.
The presentation of this show is supported by CALQ, as part of FURIES’ participation in the Aerowaves network’s SpringForward platform, under the invitation of La danse sur les routes du Québec.
YAV, originally from Congo, is a singer, songwriter, producer, movement artist and model. As a dancer, he collaborates with various choreographers. As a creator, his work has been featured in Vogue, NL, I-D, Glamcult and Numéro Netherlands; he was selected by NRC TOP 101 LIST (2020) as an up-and-coming talent in the “Dance” category. He has participated in projects such as Black is King, a Beyonce film, and has been movement director for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Daily Paper. In August 2021, he premiered his latest performance, MOVEMENTS OF SOUL, a work that was subsequently selected for Aerowaves (2024). YAV also composes music for his own projects: in February 2024, he launched his first single WHY, followed on March 22, 2024 by an EP entitled ERUPTION. YAV has also modeled for the likes of Armani and Marc Jacobs (Photo: Daelo Shots).
