Congo-born YAV is a singer, songwriter, producer, movement artist and model. On the opening night of FURIES, YAV will perform tracks from his EP, ERUPTION, released on March 22, 2024.
This concert is a North American premiere.
Artist biographies
Alexia Vinci is a two-spirited multidisciplinary artist from the Gespeg Mi’gmaq Nation. Trained as an actress, she also excels as a creator and improviser. At the heart of her artistic approach are dialogue, encounters and collective experiences. Her artistic work spans diverse territories, from the sacred to the intimate, from memory to roots. She has participated in readings at the Jamais lu festival and Théâtre La Licorne, and played the character of Noémie in the adaptation of Naomi Fontaine’s novel Manikanetish, presented at Duceppe. Valérie Ivy Hamelin is a multidisciplinary artist who expresses herself on voice, flute, hand drum, African percussion and gumboots. A member of the Gespeg Mi’gmaq Nation, she loves to celebrate, honor and participate in the revitalization of her culture and language through song, music, storytelling and connection to the land. She performs with her group Mi’gmafrica, formed with Senegalese griot Sadio Sissokho. She holds a bachelor’s degree in governance and indigenous intervention from UQAT. She is an activist for the protection of the territory and positions herself as a water carrier. She has collaborated with various environmental protection organizations and indigenous communities, campaigning for many years for the protection of water, rivers and the ocean, as well as against the invasion of oil companies on Gespe’gewa’gi territory. Artist biography
Rodrigo Alvarenga-Bonilla began dancing at the age of five, when he joined a Salvadoran folk dance troupe. He began hip-hop, popping and break dancing at youth clubs, self-taught. He then began classes at Studio Party Time in Quebec City and joined PNT Dance Company and the group MARVL. A 2019 graduate of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Rodrigo continues to develop his personal style, blending break, contemporary and acrobatics. He collaborates with various contemporary dance companies and choreographers, including Destins Croisés, Catherine Gaudet, We All Fall Down, Animals of Distinctions, Sylvain Émard, Marie Béland and Tentacle Tribe, as well as with Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Éloize (Photo: Andrea Alvarenga-Bonilla).

Artist biography
YAV, originally from Congo, is a singer, songwriter, producer, movement artist and model. As a dancer, he collaborates with various choreographers. As a creator, his work has been featured in Vogue, NL, I-D, Glamcult and Numéro Netherlands; he was selected by NRC TOP 101 LIST (2020) as an up-and-coming talent in the “Dance” category. He has participated in projects such as Black is King, a Beyonce film, and has been movement director for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Daily Paper. In August 2021, he premiered his latest performance, MOVEMENTS OF SOUL, a work that was subsequently selected for Aerowaves (2024). YAV also composes music for his own projects: in February 2024, he launched his first single WHY, followed on March 22, 2024 by an EP entitled ERUPTION.
