This solo piece combines theater and dance, featuring performer Chi Long (Australian born Vietnamese immigrated to Canada) in an autofiction that intertwines real, fictional, and borrowed stories. Created by choreographer Élodie Lombardo in close collaboration with the performer, this solo explores the conscious and unconscious mechanisms of identity construction and transmission, invisible memories, our composite identities, and the relationships we have with physical or imaginary territories. Despite the intensity of the narrative, the piece reflects Chi’s personality: fresh, surprising, and unsettling. Chi, in complete mastery of her art, delivers a powerful solo with just the right touch of sensitive humor.

This performance is presented in collaboration with Maison de la Culture de Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.

Born in Australia to Vietnamese parents, Chi Long moved to Montreal in 1990 and joined Compagnie O Vertigo in 1991, then became a member of La Compagnie Marie Chouinard from 2002 to 2008. A major performer on the Montreal scene, Chi Long continues to venture out as a freelancer with several artists and companies, boldly and generously diving into projects that take her out of her comfort zone. Over the past five years, she has collaborated on projects with the compagnies Mayday, Virginie Brunelle, Catherine Gaudet, Andrea Peña and Artists, Van Grimde Corps Secrets, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage, Martin Messier, and Les Soeurs Schmutt.
La compagnie des sœurs Schmutt, founded by twin sisters Élodie and Séverine Lombardo, choreographers and performers, has been presenting large-scale multidisciplinary projects as well as more intimate ones for over 20 years, questioning the stage space, performance processes, and political and social engagement. The company has produced a dozen shows for the stage and just as many in situ contexts. Élodie Lombardo’s artistic approach is rooted in a theatricalization of dance, which she develops through an interrelational dynamic with other mediums. She encourages encounters between different disciplines, places, environments, artists, and cultures, with the aim of creating unique research contexts that question identity and human relationships. The spirit of collaboration and intercultural sharing are two dimensions that nourish and stimulate her creative work.
